Cary, N.C., April 30, 2010 - MicroMass Communications, Inc., a leader in behavioral science-based relationship marketing in the healthcare industry, has appointed veteran marketing strategist Shelly Weitz to the position of account director. In her new position, she will manage the agency's account for one of the largest biotech and pharmaceutical services providers in the world OR: for a world leader in biotech and pharmaceutical services that provides clinical, commercial and consulting and capital solutions.
In addition to managing this account, she will also help expand the scope of MicroMass services both regionally and nationwide. She reports to Jay Bigelow, president.
Weitz brings to her new position more than two decades of marketing communications experience, having managed a broad customer base, including biotechnology, managed care and contract research organizations. With a particular focus on technology companies-many in the North Carolina region-she has helped clients build their businesses through wide range of services, from brand development and market intelligence to creative direction and lead generation.

Weitz joins MicroMass from Creative Strategy, Inc., Chevy Chase, Md., a full-service marketing communications firm. Working as senior creative director from 2005 to 2010, she managed many of the firm's North Carolina-based clients, providing the full range of marketing services, including qualitative research, website development, public relations services, sales support materials.
Before this, she was owner and principal for Shelly Writes, Durham, DC, where she was Creative Strategy's primary representative in North Carolina, managing agency clients as well as a portfolio of her own freelance accounts from 1999 to 2005.
She began her marketing career as a copywriter and account executive for Creative Strategy in Washington, DC, where she worked for two years before opening the agency's Durham, NC office as vice president and general manager in 1988.
An active member of her community, she is an adjunct board member of the Communities n Schools of Durham, and an active member of the Durham Downtown Rotary, Girls Rock NC, and the Council for Entrepreneurial Development.
Weitz holds a Master of Arts in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Penn. and lives in Durham, NC.
