He has served as head of MSO Theatrical Design since 1993 and has been a visiting artist at Iowa State University, University of Iowa, Cornell University, and the Actor's Theatre of Louisville.

Oberle earned a Master of Fine Arts from the Yale School of Drama. He also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Washington University in St. Louis and completed Advanced Flash Actionscript training at New York's School of Visual Arts.  He lives in Cary, N.C.
