MicroMass Initiated Expansion of Behavioral Services with Three Senior Promotions

Cary, N.C., August 12, 2008 – Demonstrating its commitment to a discipline it pioneered – behavioral science based relationship marketing – MicroMass Communications, Inc. has elevated three members of its behavioral services group to key management positions, paving the way for an expansion of the agency’s behavioral services offerings and broader application of its unique relationship marketing methodologies.

MicroMass is unrivalled in successfully combining behavioral science with marketing expertise, first identifying the critical factors that influence individual behavior, then integrating those insights into communications programs that build enduring relationships between customers and brands. Currently specializing in healthcare but poised for growth into other industries, MicroMass is headquartered in Cary, N.C., with a second office in Morristown, N.J.

“We built MicroMass around our ability to apply behavioral models to the business of personalizing brands,” said Jay Bigelow, president of MicroMass. “By establishing a strong, expanded leadership team for our behavioral services group, we can take that core differentiation to a wider variety of business challenges.”

Alyson Connor, a veteran public health professional with more than 15 years of pharmaceutical, not-for-profit and government experience, has been promoted from director of behavioral sciences to vice president of behavioral planning and analytics. She will be responsible for developing new and enhanced applications of the agency’s behavioral services, including a patent-pending predictive modeling capability, segmentation and primary research capabilities, and expansion of the agency’s outcomes and optimization practices. She reports to Jay Bigelow, president.

Connor joined MicroMass in 2005, leading the company’s in-house team of behaviorists and researchers and working closely on campaign development with the agency’s strategy, creative and technology teams. Prior to joining the agency, she worked as an epidemiologist for GlaxoSmithKline in Research Triangle Park, N.C. She also devoted 13 years to public health research with various government and not-for-profit organizations, focusing on women’s health, cancer, HIV/AIDS, and sexually transmitted diseases.

Connor received a Master of Science in public health from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va., and a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is currently completing a doctorate in public health at Virginia Tech. She lives in Cary, N.C.

Jessica Brueggeman, promoted from senior behaviorist to manager of behavioral services, brings a strong background in health behavior, nursing and public health to her new role. She will provide day-to-day direction to the behavioral services group while continuing to make significant contributions to the development of client campaigns. She reports to Alyson Connor, vice president of behavioral planning and analytics.

In her eight years with MicroMass, Brueggeman has integrated behavioral science insights into relationship marketing programs covering more than 15 therapeutic categories, including asthma, allergies, cardiovascular disease, central nervous system disorders, and overactive bladder.

Brueggeman started her health career as a registered nurse, giving her a uniquely personal and practical perspective on the roles communications and relationships play in the promotion of positive health outcomes. She holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Science in public health from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She lives in Raleigh, N.C.

Sally Demshur, formerly a senior behaviorist at MicroMass, has been promoted to manager of behavioral applications, reporting to Alyson Connor, vice president of behavioral planning and analytics. She will be responsible for expanding the agency’s methodologies to new channels, which will include developing the company’s behavioral-based media planning capabilities and working with the MicroMass digital practice group to determine how best to leverage social media for clients.

Demshur joined MicroMass in 2004 and has helped the agency gain significant insights into specific patient populations, including individuals with cancer, Parkinson’s disease, heart disease and osteoarthritis. Previously, she worked as a registered nurse in general medicine and obstetrics and gynecology, developing a keen understanding of patient health behavior and effective health intervention programs.

Demshur holds of Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a Master of Public Health, with a specialty in health behavior and health education, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She lives in Raleigh, N.C.
