Jessica Brueggeman, Director of Behavioral Services at MicroMass Communications, Inc., was honored April 17 with an Ethel Martus Lawther Alumni Award from the University of North Carolina Greensboro School of Health and Human Performance.
The award, named for the school's first dean, is given by a review committee of the School of Health and Human Performance to outstanding alumni who attained local, state, or regional recognition through their achievements in the area of scholarship, leadership, or service in their career and/or civic involvement.
Brueggeman, RN, MPH, CHES, joined MicroMass in 2000 and currently leads its behavioral services team. She brings experience in nursing and consumer health behavior, with emphases on cardiac critical care, medical intensive care, oncology and post-surgical observation.
"She has been a significant contributor to the field of public health and the use of mass communication to reach a variety of audiences to affect behavior," said UNCG Public Health Professor Daniel Bibeau, Ph.D., who supervised her as a graduate assistant while getting her Master of Public Health from UNCG.
"The significance comes from Jessica's ability to take her MPH in Community Health Education, and apply the knowledge and skills in a more novel environment, marketing and communication related to behavior change," Bibeau said.
Bibeau praised her willingness to come to UNCG to, "open the minds of students to new and creative options for careers they may have never seen," calling her one of the most talented students in his 25 years at UNCG.
"Jessica is not only smart and talented in the application of behavior science to understand and improve lives, but is also a warm, engaging and fun person to be around," said MicroMass President Jay Bigelow. "Jessica, you have made the world a better (and healthier) place and we thank you for all you bring to us and salute your achievements."
