Cary, N.C. August 26, 2010 - DiabetesSisters, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the health and quality of life of women with diabetes, and to advocate on their behalf, named Andi Kravitz, MPH, a behaviorist at MicroMass Communications, Inc., to the Advisory Council of its Board of Directors.
With her strong background in behavioral science and focus on improving patient outcomes, Kravitz specializes in developing practical ways to motivate people to make healthy, sustainable lifestyle changes.
Since 2009 Kravitz, part of MicroMass' strategic services team, has helped DiabetesSisters identify ways to further engage its audience and become recognized as the premier organization for women with diabetes.
"We are very appreciative to Andi and MicroMass Communications for the invaluable support and assistance provided to DiabetesSisters over the past 18 months," said Brandy Barnes, MSW, Founder/CEO of DiabetesSisters.
"DiabetesSisters would not be where it is without either of them! Andi's background, experience, and passion for helping women with diabetes make her an excellent addition to the DiabetesSisters' Advisory Council," she said.
"It's no surprise to see Andi going above and beyond by giving her private time volunteering to help people make healthier lifestyle changes. Her heart is in what she does," said Alyson Connor, SVP, Group Director, Strategic and Behavioral Services for MicroMass.
The Advisory Council supports the Board of Directors by providing advice and counsel to the Board in areas such as fundraising, finance, investments, volunteerism, marketing/advertising and communications with the community at large.
Prior to joining MicroMass, Kravitz worked in physical activity and aging at Be Active North Carolina, concentrating on falls prevention. That experience helped to lay the groundwork for bringing "A Matter of Balance" - a nationally recognized exercise program designed to help older adults manage concerns about falling and improve physical strength - to North Carolina.
Kravitz has a Master of Public Health in health behavior and health education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Arts in communication from the University of Pennsylvania.
