For 25 years, MicroMass has applied evidence-based techniques from health psychology and behavioral science to change patient and provider behavior.

Why do we focus on behavior? The answer is simple. Behavior is the leading determinant of health outcomes, and it is the root of most challenges pharmaceutical and biotech companies face. Thankfully, it also happens to be one of the few things we can change.

We apply behavioral science to address the underlying drivers of patient and provider behavior and help our clients accelerate commercial success.

For patients, these behaviors include positive coping, adhering to treatment, making lifestyle changes, seeking treatment or advice, and explaining symptoms and feelings. Provider behaviors include prescribing inertia, delivering a confident and personalized treatment recommendation, and uncovering patient barriers to treatment.

While some agencies rely on behavioral science to better understand customer behavior, our approach is fundamentally different.

What’s in a name? Well, for us, everything. MicroMass was built on principles designed to improve patient lives and public health. Since our beginning, we have applied behavioral science in the form of micro solutions (evidence-based one-on-one strategies). These strategies are then delivered on a mass scale (through technology, call centers, etc) to address the underlying beliefs and behaviors that stand in the way of brand success.

Recent Accomplishments
New business opportunities and significant franchise work expansion contributed to an extremely successful 2018. These additional opportunities and expansion of current client projects fueled continued revenue and staff growth. Currently, our full-service agency has 115 employees including behavioral, strategy, creative, account services, project management, event planning, and technology.

Our multidisciplinary, specialized approach serves more than 35 active accounts. Our client roster includes influential pharma clients such as: Harmony, Incyte, Insmed, Janssen, Keryx, Lexicon, Merck, Novartis, Novo Nordisk, Pharming, Pfizer, Sanofi, Takeda, Tesaro, Teva, UCB, and United Therapeutics.

Here are some specific highlights of our approach to creating more aligned multichannel customer experiences that drive meaningful connections and behavior change.

  • Pharmacyclics/Janssen. MicroMass developed a continuous patient experience from diagnosis through treatment for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). This experience educates and empowers patients throughout their journey and reinforces a seamless experience for patients navigating insurance and cost.
  • UCB. Working across the UCB epilepsy franchise, MicroMass continues to develop tools and resources designed to help practicing physicians reach the best outcome for their patients and prepare the market for new product launches for epilepsy.

Future Plans
No matter how much pharma and healthcare may evolve, behavior will always be the underlying driver that impacts optimal patient outcomes. We will continue to expand our influence and offerings to ensure that our initiatives and solutions are integrated across touchpoints, leveraging emerging data-driven approaches, and utilizing technology that’s right for the patient and provider. Our commitment is to continue to help brands maximize outcomes and commercial success in an increasingly value-based healthcare system.

Promoting change in behavior is part of everything we do.

This year, MicroMass developed a Create for a Cause campaign to raise money for a local organization that is committed to promoting change. For this campaign, MicroMass hosted an auction with all proceeds benefiting CORRAL Riding Academy, a local nonprofit that pairs rescued horses with girls in high-risk situations to promote healing and transformational life change. MicroMass employees donated items, services, personal arts, crafts, and even a weekend at a mountain cottage.

These items were auctioned off over a week through both a silent and a live auction.

As a team, MicroMass raised more than $2,000 for CORRAL. This money will help CORRAL build a new facility.

In addition, MicroMass employees were inspired to drive change through donations to local and international food drives. MicroMass led a Toys for Tots campaign over the holidays, and donated household items and pet food to Interact, an organization dedicated to ending the cycle of domestic and sexual violence in North Carolina.
